The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research is pleased to announce that Professor Rajesh Thakker, MD, ScD, FRCP, FRCPEd, FRCPath, FRS, FMedSci, May Professor of Medicine in the Radcliffe Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford and fellow of Somerville College, Oxford, will succeed Dr. Roberto Civitelli as the seventh Editor-in-Chief the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR®).
Dr. Thakker served as Associate Editor for JBMR® for nearly 10 years and as Section Editor for the ASBMR Primer on Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism since 2007. His service to ASBMR has been outstanding since he began his membership in 1988; he served as Co-Chair for the 2008 Annual Meeting, received the Louis V. Avioli’s Founder’s Award in 2009, was elected Fellow of the ASBMR in 2018, and gave the Avioli Founder’s Lecture in 2021. His most recent service was ASBMR 2022 Program Chair.
Dr. Thakker’s breadth of research background covers basic bone biology, endocrinology, genetics, translational, and clinical research. He has served as President of the Society for Endocrinology, UK (2019-2022); and Chair of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)/Medical Research Council (MRC, UK) Efficacy and Mechanisms Evaluations (EME) Board (2008-2016) which established research funding for over 100 projects.
